El baterista Art Blakey y su banda The Jazz Messengers interpretan en directo su mítico "Moanin'". Aparece un jovencísimo Lee Morgan a la trompeta (ya os pondré cosas de él en solitario). Este tema que os traigo tiene un ritmillo bluesero vacilón que me gusta mucho. A lo mejor he visto demasiado cine clásico, pero escuchando esta canción me entran ganas de irme a buscar garitos de billar (claro, que tendrían que ser en blanco y negro y estar llenos de humo de tabaco, y ninguna de esas dos cosas es posible hoy en día).

Maybe I've seen too much classic cinema, because listening to this song makes me want to go to look for pool halls (of course, black and white and full of smoke, although none of those things is possible nowadays).

Frank Zappa - I'm The Slime

Sin duda Frank Zappa fue un músico de otro planeta. Su personalísimo estilo no puede dejar indiferente: o te gusta mucho o no te gusta nada. Es lo que tienen los músicos tan radicalmente originales y diferentes a todo. Las letras irreverentes, obscenas y combativas no tienen parangón en la lírica del rock de los 70 (vamos, que era muy bestia). Aquí os lo traigo en directo, con su "I'm the slime" de su disco Over-Nite Sensation. Ya os pondré más cosas de Zappa (avisaré previamente si hay contenidos duros).

No doubt Frank Zappa was a musician from another planet. His personal style leaves no one indifferent: either you love or you don't like at all. That's the way it goes when a musician is so radically original and different. The irreverent, obscene and combative lyrics are unmatched in the lyricism of the 70s rock (well, I mean he was very rude). This post contains a live performance of "I'm the Slime" from his album Over-Nite Sensation. It will bring you more things about Zappa in the future (I will notify in advance if contents are suitable for all audiences).

Whitesnake - Ain't Gonna Cry No More

David Coverdale fue el cantante de una de las épocas más brillantes de Deep Purple. Después fundó su propia banda: Whitesnake. Esta banda empezó haciendo un rock duro con ciertos aromas de rythm'n'blues. Entrados en los 80 rozaron el glam-heavy, con canciones más comerciales, sus pelitos cardados y esas cosas. A continuación os pongo un tema de la primera época de Whitesnake (mi preferida), de un disco llamado Ready and Willing. Ojo porque al teclado está Jon Lord y a la batería Ian Paice (ambos ex-Deep Purple).

David Coverdale was the lead singer during one of the most brilliant eras of Deep Purple. He afterwards founded his own band: Whitesnake. This band began making hard rock with some aromas of rythm'n'blues. Well into the 80s they bordered on glam-heavy, making music with a more commercial style, backcombed hairs and stuff. Below I'll post a theme from the early days of Whitesnake (my favorite), taken from an album called Ready and Willing. Attention, because Jon Lord plays the keyboard and Ian Paice plays the drums (both ex-Deep Purple).

Un poco de ópera. Ésta me trae buenos recuerdos porque me la grabó en una cinta de casete mi seño de música en el instituto. Es un fragmento ("O mio babbino caro") de la ópera "Gianni Schicchi" de Puccini. Me gusta el tono juguetón de la cantante (Matthews) intentando persuadir al padre, en comparación con otras versiones más serias a cargo de otras cantantes. Efectivamente, es muy habitual en la música clásica que los diferentes intérpretes den su toque personal a las obras, a veces incluso saltándose las pautas del compositor en la partitura. Para comparar, os pongo la versión de Te Kanawa que apareció en la banda sonora de "Una habitación con vistas".

A bit of opera. This one brings me good memories because my teacher of music at high school recorded it for me on a cassette tape. Canned Heat - On The Road Again

"On the road again" es una gran canción. Admito que nunca escuché nada más de sus autores (Canned Heat). Pero escuchando este tema te entran ganas de comprarte un camión y recorrer una larga carretera por el desierto. Incluso se oye ininterrumpidamente de fondo una especie de arpegio de guitarra que suena como el eje de transmisión de un gran camión en contínuo movimiento.

"On the road again" is a great song. I admit that I never heard anything else by the authors (Canned Heat). But listening to this theme it makes you want to buy a truck and travel a long road through the desert. If you pay attention, you can even hear a sort of uninterrupted arpeggio guitar that sounds like the drive shaft of a large truck in continuous motion.

AC/DC - Sin City

Simplemente porque lleva más años acumulados en AC/DC, a casi todo el mundo le resulta más familiar el cantante bajito de la gorra (el fantástico Brian Johnson), pero algunos pensamos que los mejores temas del grupo se hicieron en la época en que cantaba el tristemente desaparecido Bon Scott. Con todos ustedes: AC/DC y su emblemático "Sin City".

Everyone is more familiar with the short singer of the cap (the great Brian Johnson) simply because he has been in AC/DC for many years, but some people think the best songs of the group were made at the time the sadly late Bon Scott was the singer.
