El 12 de Octubre se celebró el día de la Hispanidad, o de España, o Día del respeto a la Diversidad Cultural, o Día de las Américas, o lo que sea. Cualquiera sabe. Os dejo con uno de los grandes del jazz: Chick Corea (un gran hispanista, en lo que a música se refiere) y uno de sus temas más reconocidos: Spain.

On October 12th was celebrated the Hispanic Day, or Spain Day, or Columbus Day, or Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity, or Day of the Americas, or whatever. Who knows. I give you a song by one of the jazz greatest musicians: Chick Corea (a great Hispanist, as far as music is concerned). The song's called Spain.

Camel - The Snow Goose

Para mi gusto "The Snow Goose" es el mejor álbum de la banda de rock progresivo "Camel". Aquí traigo una actuación televisiva en la que aparecen enlazados varios temas (como en el disco). Marco el minutaje de algunos momentos clave: 2:55; 4:40 y 7:05 (uno de mis solos de guitarra favoritos, con un magnífico Andrew Latimer). Pero ¡qué diablos!, olvidaos del minutaje y vedlo entero. ;-)

In my opinion "The Snow Goose" is the best album of the progressive rock band "Camel". Today I bring a television performance in which several themes appear linked (as in the album). I point out some key moments: 2:55, 4:40 and 7:05 (one of my favorite guitar solos, by a magnificent Andrew Latimer). But, what the hell!, forget the running time and watch the entire video. ;-)

Julie Driscoll se unió durante unos pocos años a Brian Auger & The Trinity para hacer una interesante mezcla de R&B, jazz, rock progresivo, psicodelia... De esta unión salieron canciones fabulosas, como esta versión de "Indian Rope Man". El sonido del teclado de Auger es demoledor.

"Rage Against The Machine" nació en los 90 haciendo una interesante mezcla de hip hop, funk y heavy metal que con los años se ha llegado a denominar "rap metal". Sus letras de contenido reivindicativo no dejan indiferente.

Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique

La Sinfonía Fantástica de Berlioz es una obra que me fascina. Me parece una música revolucionaria para su época (1830). Berlioz no disimuló que se trataba de una obra autobiográfica. Además, redactó un programa en el que se explicaba el significado de cada uno de los episodios. En el primero: un músico enamorado, amor no correspondido, desesperación, melancolía, opio, pasión, celos, ternura... El mítico director Charles Munch dirige a la Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique is a work that fascinates me. I find it a revolutionary music of its time (1830). Berlioz did not hide that it was an autobiographical work. In addition, he wrote a programme that explained the meaning of each episode. In the first: a musician in love, unrequited love, despair, melancholy, opium, passion, jealousy, tenderness... The Boston Symphony Orchestra is conducted by the legendary Charles Munch.

The Surfaris - Wipe Out

Hoy empiezan mis vacaciones de verano. Uno de los primeros discos que me compré en mi vida fue un recopilatorio de música surfing. Ese disco contenía canciones maravillosas como este refrescante "Wipe Out" de The Surfaris. El video que he encontrado también es muy refrescante. Espero que seáis capaces de desconectar de la seria realidad por unos minutos.

My summer holiday starts today. One of the first albums I bought in my life was a compilation of surfing music. That album contained wonderful songs like this refreshing "Wipe Out" by The Surfaris. The video I've found is also very refreshing. I hope you are able to leave the serious reality behind you for a few minutes.
