Mahler - Symphonies Nr. 1 & 5 (Abbado + Berlin Phlilarmonic Orchestra + Lucerne Festival Orchestra)

Ayer murió Claudio Abbado. Uno de los directores de orquesta más importantes de los últimos tiempos. Dentro de su repertorio me gustan especialmente sus sinfonías de Mahler. Memorable es la grabación de la Primera Sinfonía con la Filarmónica de Berlín (donde suplió como titular a Karajan). También me encanta la Séptima con la Sinfónica de Chicago. Hoy traigo dos videos en los que se podrá apreciar la grandeza de Mahler y de Abbado: fuerza, intensidad y delicadeza en la Sinfonía nº 1 (en el debut de Abbado con la Filarmónica de Berlín) y en el Adagietto de la Sinfonía nº5 (en el Festival de Lucerna, tan querido por Abbado).

Claudio Abbado died yesterday. One of the most important conductors of recent times. Among his repertoire I especially like Mahler's Symphonies. The recording of the Symphony Nr.1 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (where he supplied Karajan as a Chief) is memorable. I also love Nr.7 conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Today I bring two videos in which you will appreciate the greatness of Mahler and Abbado: on the one hand, strength and intensity in the Symphony Nr. 1 (debut of Abbado as the BPO Chief Conductor) and, on the other hand, delicacy in the Adagietto of the Symphony No. 5 (at the so dear to Abbado Lucerne Festival).

The Black Crowes - My morning song

The Black Crowes es una de mis bandas favoritas de los últimos tiempos. Para los que conocéis mis gustos musicales no será ninguna sorpresa, ya que este grupo transpira influencias del rock de los 70 por los cuatro costados: The Faces, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. Os traigo una interpretación en directo de su "My morning song", extraída de uno de sus mejores discos: The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (1992).

The Black Crowes is one of my favorite bands of recent times. This is not a surprise to those who know my musical tastes, as this group exudes influences from 70's rock: The Faces, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc.. Mozart - Requiem (Gardiner + Herreweghe)

El Requiem de Mozart es una de las obras de música clásica que más apasionan tanto a doctos como a profanos. Se han grabado infinidad de versiones. Todas diferentes, todas magníficas. Existen versiones monumentales, con orquestas y coros mastodónticos, como las de Böhm, Karajan o Solti. Existen versiones más intimistas, como las historicistas de Hogwood, Harnoncourt o Gardiner. Hoy traigo al blog una versión de Gardiner. Y de propina, uno de mis fragmentos favoritos, el Tuba Mirum, en mi versión favorita del Requiem de Mozart: la versión de Herreweghe. La entrada de Ian Bostridge (tenor) en el segundo 56 es espectacular.

Mozart's Requiem is one of the classical works that inspire passion the most in both erudite and lay people. Many versions have been recorded. All of them different, all of them great. Some versions are monumental, performed by huge orchestras and choirs, such as those of Böhm, Karajan or Solti. Some versions are more intimist, such as the historicist versions by Hogwood, Harnoncourt or Gardiner. Today I bring to the blog a version by Gardiner.  And an encore: one of my favorite passages (Tuba Mirum) in my favorite version of Mozart's Requiem: Herreweghe's version. The entry of Ian Bostridge (tenor) in the second 56 is spectacular.

Miles Davis - Spanish Key

A mucha gente no le gusta el Miles eléctrico. A mí sí me gusta. Os dejo con una actuación en el mítico festival de la Isla de Wight. Tema: Spanish Key (Feliz día de la Hispanidad, o de España, o Día del respeto a la Diversidad Cultural, o Día de las Américas, o como lo llames en tu país).

Cai - Noche abierta + Soñé contigo

Cai es otra buena banda de rock andaluz. Compuesta por excelentes músicos. En sus orígenes tuvo en los teclados a Chano Domínguez, que hoy hace carrera en solitario como prestigioso músico de jazz flamenco y latino. A continuación, su canción "Noche abierta" en una actuación en TV (a partir del segundo 26 del vídeo).

Cai is another good Andalusian rock band made up of excellent musicians. Originally Chano Dominguez played keyboards, who has made a name for himself as a prestigious flamenco-latin jazz musician. Coming up: "Noche abierta" in a performance on TV (starting at 26 sec).
